Umut Germeç was born in 1963 in Tokat, Turkey. He graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul. He studied under the supervision of Neşet Günal, Neş'e Erdok, and Devrim Erbil. In 2002, Umut Germeç completed his doctoral thesis, "TREES: Place and Importance of Trees in Art as Subject and as Technical Object". Between 2006 and 2009, he was a member of the teaching staff at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. Since 2009, he has taught painting and graphic art at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University.

Umut Germeç's paintings have been presented in group and solo exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. He participated in the 2010 Çanakkale Biennial and oversaw the exhibition and book project istanbullayüzleşme -Yüz Çağdaş İstanbul Gravürü (Confrontation with Istanbul – One Hundred Contemporary Istanbul Engravings) at Galatea Art (Istanbul 2010/11). His works are held in private collections and in such museums as the HAMBIS Printmaking Museum.

Umut Germeç's poems and articles on art have been published in art periodicals such as Cumhuriyet Dergisi, Varlık Dergisi, Papirüs, İnsancıl, and Evrensel Kültür.
